What abnormality occurs in the Nephron from Diabetes mellitus?

Which part of the Nephron is functioning abnormally when you have diabetes mellitus, emphysema and dehydration. I personally believe it is the glomerulus, but I would to hear another person’s opinion? Thanks. http://bit.ly/pBLzMm
